Dean Castle Show 2008

Dean Park Classic Car Show - Bank Holiday in May or Aug 2010
The Ayrshire Classics Car Club annual show takes place at Dean Castle Country Park Kilmarnock each year in early May but was postponed this year until August due to bad weather in May. The setting in a field in front of the Dower House is absolutely lovely. The show combines classic cars with a variety of attractions to suit the family. Of course we also have a ‘Best Car’ award, which is made to the owner of the car that the public like the most. Dean Castle Country Park is a delightful East Ayrshire Council operated park set in the heart of Kilmarnock. It is easy to find, just to the east of Glasgow Road and offers a family day out with walks, nature conserved and displayed by a team of enthusiastic rangers and the elegantly restored Castle itself. All in all there will be a wealth of attractions for classic car buffs and families alike. More information can be found at: http://www.deancastle.com/

Ayrshire Classics Car Club is a group of people with a common love of classic cars. The Club meets at a local hostelry on the second Thursday of each month throughout the year and welcomes all car enthusiasts. Once spring comes, the cars come out of hibernation and take to the roads as the Club joins in with the classic car circuit of events. Chief amongst them for Ayrshire Classics is the show at Dean Park, which has been run by the Club for the last 3 years. Some one hundred and thirty cars of all ages and types from clubs from all over Scotland will gather for the day on the greensward in front of the delightful Dower House at Dean Castle Country Park. Last year, the vehicles ranged in age from 1928 to the 1990s but the common thread is always the enthusiasm of their owners who are always willing to show off their beautifully prepared cars and enjoy talking about their detailed exploits, be it mechanical, bodywork, usage or just what the best polish is.

Of course Dean Castle provides a marvellous backdrop to the event and also offers a wonderful free day out for families. The Club’s aim is to add to that experience and cater for the children as well as classic car enthusiasts. A program of events and attractions will take place including many distinctly non-vehicular displays including the owls which so entranced the children last year and the folks from Beowulf Scotland enacting scenes from ancient times. We will also provide some idiosyncratic displays and of course ice creams and burgers will be available to feed the inner man, woman and child. The full program is still being developed and we also hope to be able to keep the ring filled with events throughout the day. Hopefully the show will be opened by the Provost of East Ayrshire who will be saluted by a piper in a small ceremony in front of the Dower House at 10.30 am and will close at 16.30 after presentation of prizes to the 3 top cars on the field.

If you would like to take part in the show please contact Hugh McLachlan on 01292 314741 and if you would like to just come and see – just turn up, it is FREE.  Please note that exhibitors have to pre-book and pay a small fee in advance, as spaces are limited this year.
